Irish Universities Kay Bowen Cup 2025 (UCC)

QUB Cup Finalists with Kay Bowen (centre) at UCC

On Wednesday, February 5th, our Queen’s University Belfast ladies' squad took to the field for their debut in the prestigious Kay Bowen 15-a-side competition at UCC’s ‘The Farm.’ Facing some of Ireland’s top university teams—UCD, Trinity, Galway University, and UCC—the challenge was set for a fiercely competitive group stage, with only the top two teams advancing to the final.

The squad delivered an outstanding performance, playing exceptional rugby throughout the tournament. Dominating the group stage, they secured their place in the final against UCD.

Group Stage Results:

🏉 QUB 28 – 0 Trinity

🏉 QUB 14 – 0 UCD

🏉 QUB 5 – 5 Galway University

🏉 QUB 12 – 0 UCC

However, with a slightly depleted squad and having already faced UCD earlier in the day, the final proved to be an immense battle. Despite their best efforts in a hard-fought contest, Queen’s narrowly missed out on the title 7-0 to UCD

Everyone at QUB is immensely proud of the team’s achievements. Finishing as runners-up in the Kay Bowen tournament is a testament to the talent, determination, and potential of this remarkable student group. This performance sends a strong message about the bright future ahead for QUB women’s rugby.
